Eponymous with rest and relaxation, the infamous Gilpin Hotel offers guests peace and tranquility in an idyllic location within the heart of the Lakes. Not content to sit back and take a rest following a humongous labour of luxurious love in the form of those fabulous lodges and sumptuously decorated new fusion restaurant… the Cunliffes have done it again. This time expanding their wholesome retreat to include a dreamy photographic exhibition in the light and airy space above Gilpin Spice.
Regular guests at the hotel, Denis and Freda Hocking are hugely talented professional photographers who travel the globe in pursuit of ethereal landscape shots such as those on display now at Gilpin.
For stressed-out, fractious souls, this exhibition is the perfect antidote to life’s anxieties. A calm, almost celestial collection of photographs based on the Japanese philosophy of Zen Haiku which embraces the simplicity of nature and reflects the spiritual moods linked to the time of day…. feeling sleepy already? Well doze not. This beautiful exhibition won’t be available for long. Due to close on 24th February, it’s been extended indefinitely because, well quite simply it’s fabulous. But don’t take my word for it, go visit and immerse yourself in the halcyon splendour of this stunning collection of art.
