The Snug Tearoom Appleby

Cake and prosecco on tap in Appleby.

The Snug

Just around the corner from Appleby’s Boroughgate, you’ll find a new and unusual tearoom called The Snug on Bridge Street.  An annexe to the King’s Head pub this little eaterie opened only twelve weeks ago and feels more pub-like than coffee house.  I popped in one day last week to try out the sweet treats made by farmer’s wife Karen Dargue.  Big and roomy, The Snug serves up fabulous cakes and scones at super eco prices.  What’s not to love about a slab of yummy home-made chocolate cake at £2 a slice…

The Snug at King's Head

For a savoury alternative, The Snug will serve you up a ploughman’s lunch complete with home-made piccalilli by Sarah Smith (of Low Howgill marmalade fame) at just £6.50 or how about pie and peas at a mere £4.50?  What’s nice about the Snug aside from its honest, wholesome fair-priced food is that if you’re feeling like something a little stronger, it’s the only tearoom I know in Cumbria with Prosecco on tap.  Now that I like…
