If you’re like me and swoon over gorgeous Scandinavian-inspired homeware in varying shades of Elephant Grey… then you’ll like what’s just arrived in Windermere this autumn. Lucy Bee (no, health freaks, not related to trendy coconut oil) has just opened up her Scottie & Russell store right in the heart of tourist-ville. The paintwork was still shiny new and almost dry when I paid a visit last week to peruse her stunning collection of eclectic accessories and designer baby gifts (what a difficult job I have folks).
Lucy’s shop is bright and spacious with just the right amount of feng shui-ness about the decor. Shades of Farrow & Ball mix expertly with pristine glass and shining pewter adorning tables and chairs – a serious mix of fabulous homeware and gorgeous gifts.
So how did it all happen? Well, named after her two family dogs, Scottie & Russell started life online back in 2012 when Lucy was inspired to develop her own range of fragrance candles and stylish gifts by visiting endless county shows and pootling through the country markets of Southern France. A successful online business featured in Glamour mag no-less, she decided to return to her native roots and open up her inaugural store right here in Windermere.
A veritable treasure trove of gifts sourced from Scandinavia and beyond, Lucy mixes up old and new, proudly only selling items that she would love to buy herself – so a no-brainer then for me – what you see is what you want (definitely from where I was standing!).
Aside from the must-have homeware, her baby range is uber cute – ‘My First Spa’ outfit comprised of tiny dressing gown and minute slippers – I kid you not…
Although some of her items are pricey, Lucy has taken care to mix it up and offer shoppers a range of affordable gifts. At £25 her hand-poured candles both smell divine and look designer-cool, perfect for a girly Christmas gift.
So if you’re popping into Windermere for a bit of Christmas shopping, make sure you pay a visit to Scottie and Russell. Be warned however – you’ll be met with a friendly welcome from Lucy herself and it’s unlikely that you will leave empty handed. On the plus side your Christmas shopping list will most certainly be shorter…
