Pressing the Pause Button

Our aromatherapy and holistic expert Jo Evans helps us de-stress and chill this summer.

Our modern lives are more hectic these days than they’ve ever been. We find ourselves juggling the demands of work, parenting, partners, family and the everyday jobs that demand our attention. We try to be everything to everybody and so often forget to look after ourselves. I liken it to Cinderella sometimes – rushing around after everyone else and making sure they are happy and never quite getting to the ball yourself!

Of course there is something very positive in pushing ourselves, otherwise we cannot grow and develop and life would be very boring if we didn’t feel challenged at times. However, never having time to stop and take a breath is harmful to you physically and emotionally.

There are plenty of opportunities to catch this vital ‘me time’ out there, especially in Cumbria with our wealth of outside space to explore. Activities such as walking, cycling or simply mooching around a village give your brain much needed down time. If you prefer something more structured then classes such as Yoga and Meditation will give you a chance to press pause for an hour or so.

Aromatherapy is a key factor in my life which helps me on a daily basis. There are certain essential oils which have very relaxing properties, and when mixed in a blend for you to smell when feeling stressed, frustrated or low can really help. Oils such as bergamot, orange, lavender, rosewood and ylang ylang are calming and can help with feelings of anxiety and stress.

Essential oils are powerful natural oils and it is always advisable to either speak with an Aromatherapist who can develop a blend for you, or buy a ready mixed blend such as our Bergamot & Lavender Pulse Point Oil.

There will be other aromas which make you feel relaxed and calm so fill your life with them. Freshly baked bread, hyacinths, limes and cut grass are just a few of the smells which never fail to put a smile on my face!
