As the gardens awake from their winter slumber we have some exciting news to reveal…
Forest Side’s team of gardeners have teamed up with the National Garden Scheme (NGS) to offer private garden tours for small groups.
Charles Munro, Forest Side’s Head Gardener and his team have planned an exciting programme of private garden tours for small groups of between 4 and 10 people for this spring and summer…
Charles’ Wednesday garden tours will provide an in-depth insight into the workings of a restaurant’s seasonal vegetable and fruit garden, the intricacies of micro herb production as well as the day to day management of an ornamental, fragrance and woodland garden.
The tours will commence at noon in the kitchen garden, where guests can enjoy a drink in the greenhouse before embarking on the first part of their tour.
At 1pm guests will then adjourn to Forest Side’s private dining room to enjoy a four course ‘Bait Menu’ lunch created by Michelin starred chef Kevin Tickle and his team.
During lunch guests, will be able to enjoy sampling the fruits of the garden team’s labours and share each other’s gardening experiences, before recommencing their tour with a chance to explore Forest Side’s ornamental, fragrance and woodland gardens before departing.
Cumbria National Garden Scheme county organiser Diane Hewitt, said: ‘’For 90 years, the National Garden Scheme has been raising money for its beneficiary charities by opening special gardens to the public. Initially as part of QNI (District Nursing) opening gardens for ‘a shilling a head’ and, since 1980, as an independent charity supporting community nursing and horticultural education charities.
In county, we have real cottage gardens but having Forest Side, with its focus on seasonal kitchen garden produce for a Michelin Star restaurant, as one of our Cumbrian gardens is an exciting new venture.
Only for small groups, these tours will allow guests to follow the path of the seasonal food they will enjoy from the garden skilfully managed by Charles Munro through to their very special meal created by Kevin Tickle.’’
