I was invited to attend the launch evening of a particularly striking collection of photography taken by local guy Ashley Cooper at the Heaton Cooper Studio in Grasmere this week. Ashley has dedicated the last eleven years of his life, travelling the globe in the quest to capture the dramatic effects of global warming. Photographing people, places and wildlife he successfully raised enough capital through online Crowd Funding to finally publish his book ‘Images From a Warming Planet‘ which showcases some of the best shots on his chosen subject. Back in 2010 Ashley was awarded the winning image in the climate change category of the prestigious Environmental Photographer of the Year competition and he’s been adding to his collection ever since.
The event held at the Studio attracted a fair number of crowds eager to view his fabulous portfolio and meet the globe-trotting man himself. It was actually also my first time stepping foot inside the well-known Heaton Cooper Studio itself and I had the chance to take a look round and view some of the fabulous prints and paintings exhibiting the work of the Heaton Cooper family of artists. Definitely worth popping in if you have a couple of hours spare this weekend – a cracking set of pictures.
