All their afternoon teas are described as ‘luxury’ but the cheapest excludes booze (ouch) and the most expensive at £29 per person includes a glass of champers… the decision is yours but Welly advice would be to go large or go home.

2. Daffodil Hotel, Grasmere
Described as “divine, delicious and delightful” the Daffodil Hotel cites their Pastry Chef, Sarah Howe as the talent behind their artistic and generous contemporary afternoon tea. With the promise of leaving thoroughly stuffed and high as a kite on sugar, I’m definitely in. There’s a choice of either the lighter £13.95 per person menu or £19.50 for the full shebang. Word of warning: does not include booze so factor in your glass (or two) of fizz!

If it’s carbs in Marbs you’re after, then hot-stiletto heel it down to the glitz and glamour of The Fizzy Tarte. With the opulent choice of being able to book your own private, yes private afternoon tea, Heads Nook Hall is perhaps the Welly Queen of Cumbrian afternoon teas… just need to try the posh nosh now.
