1. Candlewyck Luxury B&B, Ulverston
A converted candle factory as its name suggests, this gem of a B&B is meticulously run by owner Sam Duncan. Located just outside the market town of Ulverston in the Furness Peninsula, if it’s a luxury stay in rural idyll you’re after then Candlewyck is most definitely a crowd-pleaser. Passionate about service and attention to detail Sam’s hostelry is more boutique hotel than traditional B&B. Providing her guests with the finer touches such as White Company towels and locally-sourced Sedbergh Soaps, she rightly deserves the ‘luxury’ title. Her Cumbrian Breakfast comprises of bacon and sausage reared right on the farm with milk produced from a local dairy up the road. There are two rooms available in the main farmhouse and another in the cosy adjacent barn, all priced at £95 per night during the week and £105 Friday and Saturday. A firm Welly favourite, we’re booking our staycation here very shortly!

2. New House Farm, Cockermouth
Tucked away in deepest Western Cumbria, this luxury B&B is a combination of peace and beauty without the crowds. With the dramatic landscapes of the Western Lake District on offer, not to mention stunning Buttermere just a few miles away, this is definitely a Welly favourite. The farmhouse is full of period features and gorgeous walks nearby. The high-end prices do reflect the stunning location but if you’re looking to get away from it all, then New House Farm ticks all the boxes. This fabulous B&B is fully booked at the weekend for the foreseeable future so if you can get away during the week for some much-need rest and relaxation, prices start from £60 per person per night.
3. Riverside B&B, Ambleside
This award-winning hostelry is situated idyllically just outside the hustle and bustle of Ambleside in semi-rural bliss, yet just a 10 minute walk into town. Its location is perfect for exploring the surrounding Lake District fells and at £57 per person per night, the cost is reasonable too. Upgrade to a Four Poster for an extra tenner. Note the tip from owners Richard and Diney Standen – it’s always chaper to book directly with them than through booking.com 🙂
4. The Hideaway, Windermere
Self-styled as a ’boutique hotel’ with free access to the luxury spa at the MacDonald Old England Hotel in Bowness, The Hideaway is located in gorgeous grounds surrounding Windermere. Owners Lisa and Richard Gornall offer guests complimentary tea and homemade cakes on a daily basis so it’s easy to see why this B&B’s hands-on charm has guests coming back year on year. Boasting a quiet location with no passing traffic, this unique B&B with 11 individually styled rooms, is the perfect spot to explore the heart of the Lakes. Prices vary across the board with the cheapest overnight stay at £90 midweek for a Standard Comfy room to £170 for something a little more swish.

5. Blue Pig B&B, Kirkby Lonsdale
With just three dinky rooms, the Blue Pig is a delightful B&B situated in the heart of the market town of Kirby Lonsdale village. En-suite bathrooms, WIFI and free car parking (not to be underestimated in this busy town) included, a double en-suite with shower will set you back £70 per night per room Sunday to Friday and £80 per night on a Saturday. Entirely reasonable we think given the popular appeal of this pretty little town.
